Greetings, Greetings and More Greetings :)

This shop is positively bulging at the seams with new and exciting stock so before you do your Christmas and gift shopping anywhere else pop in here to take a quick squizz around. We have everything from handbags and sweets to ceramics and paintings and of course there is the awesome Amiga T-Shirt available as well. The cost is R195, sizes range from small to 3XL. In our continuing support of Animals in Distress, R10 from the sale of every T-shirt will be donated to them. Hopefully by January/February of 2013 we will be able to hand over huge gobs of money and all the books we have collected at our annual gala event to kick the year off. Amiga will of course have her birthday party in early December and as usual we will collect money and other goodies for Animals in Distress at the same time. Stick with us and help us to support of furry friends in need.
Did you happen to catch the article in the Randburg Sun and the Northcliff Melville Times about the Amiga T-shirt and what she is doing for charity?

This article appeared in the Northcliff Melville Times on Tuesday 23rd of October 2012

If you haven’t as yet organized catering or a venue for your year-end function you are running out of time fast so please get in touch with us as a matter of hurry up if we can be of assistance to you…it is what we do.

We had great times in October with the Racheltjie De Beer book, the Kink Market, which wasn’t as busy as I had hoped it would be but it did clash with the Currie cup final and Jacaranda Pops, and the weatehr wasn’t that fantastic either. However the stalls were fabulous and everyone sold some goodies, so I am happy with the way it went! Our first ComicTalk with Scott from Cosmic Comics, South Africa also went pretty well and we are looking forward to the November one. With a little luck we can turn the comic talks into a fabulous monthly event on our calendar.

The Indulgence Cafe stall at the Kink Market

The Different Strokes stall

The Jack Adams, men’s undies stall! Fascinating items on that table let me tell you!

It is Halloween this week, don’t forget to pop in to Indulgence and pick up a few treats for the kids, we have some really special items!

Not someone you want to come face to face with at night but who is hanging out in our Halloween Tree…………..pop in and pay homage!

AuthorTalk
When we began our “book club” journey 6 years ago, Melinda Ferguson was our very first author with her first book, Smacked. I think it was incredibly brave or her to join us for an event that none of us knew was going to be a success or not. Well it was, I think so at least. Now 50 odd authors later on the 10th of October Melinda is coming back with her brand new book, The Kelly Khumalo Story………………… .

The Kelly Khumalo Story by Melinda Ferguson

November 10th Kelly Khumalo’s rags-to-riches and back to rags story

It includes a dark time in the singer’s career when she had to go back home to her mother’s RDP house with her Hummer parked in the small yard as a reminder of her once lavish lifestyle. The story of the recovering drug addict and singer is all too familiar, with elements of the fall and darkness of a broken star. The author, Melinda Ferguson, has only dangled a carrot in front of the reader as Khumalo’s voice lacks conviction in the book. The Kelly Khumalo Story, already available in bookshops, will be launched at the end of the month. It tells the tale of two former drug addicts. Ferguson, a reformed addict and True Love features editor, tells her story alongside Khumalo’s. “I told Melinda a lot of things and she became a part of my life,” said Khumalo, explaining the format. Apart from events including Khumalo’s drug addiction, alleged abusive relationship with ex-lover Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye, who fathered her son Christian, and lying on national television that she was a virgin, what stands out is how Khumalo regressed – from riches to rags, from her classy Bassonia flat to an RDP house – after her addiction had ravaged her fortunes. Khumalo returns home to her mother’s two-roomed house in Spruitview, Ekurhuleni, to add to the already full household. The Hummer parked in the tiny gateless garden all but dwarfs the small two-roomed RDP-style brick home. The house belongs to Kelly’s mother, Ntombi. Meanwhile, Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala – who are facing four counts of murder, two of attempted murder, reckless or negligent driving and driving under the influence of drugs – are due to hear their fate when the verdict is expected to be handed down in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto between Wednesday and Friday this week …………..(They have actually been sentenced already …………Mandi’s note!)

This is an AuthorTalk so please remember to bring along your two books, one to donate and one to swap and very soon, just around the corner in January/February, we will be handing over the entire collection of books, food and other goodies to Animals in Distress at the first Author event of the year. Always something to look forward to!

The Very Sexy Wonder Woman Herself

ComicTalk
Seldom do you come across people who are so incredibly passionate on their industry or subject on which they talk and then you meet Scott, with passion for comics personified. He even arrived with a typed up printed ready to blow the house down essay. He fielded questions fabulously and I have to say he knows his “stuff”. Thus I am wholeheartedly recommending this month’s talk, our second talk with Scott from Cosmic Comics is on a superhero and he has elected to talk about the one, the only ……………………Wonder Woman, she is too sexy to film these days I hear!
Join us on Saturday 17th November at 2pm

Author’s Brunch
We never did this last year so we are making up for it this year! Our annual Author’s Brunch will take place on Sunday 25th of November. This is your opportunity to meet and chat with some of the authors who have been here in the past 2 years or so, including but not limited to David Bullard, Bruce Sutherland, Michael Stanley, Fiona Snyckers, Jassy Mackenzie, Joan De La Hay, Athele Oosterbroek, . Our guest author for this event is none other than Eric Miyeni whose new book The Release will be his topic of conversation. Come meet the authors, come and have brunch with us, come and have a very chilled late Sunday morning with us! Eric Miyeni’s book will be on sale on the day and the other authors will have books here as well if you need to pick up any Christmas pressies. David Bullard tells me his book will be R50 and the proceeds go to charity; I like the way he thinks!
We will serve brunch from 10am, the authors will be here from 10 to 12 at least and they are very excited and happy to spend time chatting to you on a one to one basis. The cost per head is R120, vegetarians will be catered for as always!
This is a fabulous chilled and mellow event, perfectly timed for the slowing down year!

Guest Author Eric Miyeni will be talking at the Author’s Brunch on 25 November 2012

THE RELEASE by ERIC MIYENI
What history moves a man to violence?

Well-known non-fiction author and TV personality Eric Miyeni makes his fiction debut with The Release. The novel is a powerful and unflinching exploration of the psychological minefield in which black middle-aged men often live.
The Release tells the story of a fateful day in the life of Jeremy Hlungwani when he inexplicably perpetrates an act of violence. Flashbacks reveal Jeremy’s biography and build a portrait of his alienation. We follow his early years, culminating in the explanation of how Jeremy has come to be in possession of a gun.
Miyeni addresses a theme which is well due in South African fiction: a psychological portrayal of a particular generation of black masculinity. The story concerns a character of the generation born in the late 1950s to early 1960s and who come to taste the first material benefits of democratic South Africa.
The Release is a delicate tale of human breakdown and serves as a reminder that the legacy of the past runs deeper than the materialistic present would have us believe.
Eric Miyeni is an actor, writer and filmmaker. He is best known for his TV role as Darryl Malgas in the series Molo Fish and as Absalom Khumalo in the movie Cry, the Beloved Country. Miyeni’s work as an author comprises four non-fiction titles, including the bestselling The Only Black at a Dinner Party. In 2010 he produced, co-wrote and co-directed the documentary Mining For Change: a story of South African mining. His first feature film, Frozen Time, is due for release in 2012.
